As a mentor I like to guide you in how to find and develop authenticity, become a stronger voice in music, upgrade your sound and phrasing, composing skills, stage presence, deal with audiences and how to gain the interest of record companies, booking agencies and press.
Yuri Honing (1965) is Holland’s most important saxophone player (according to the Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD and the Oxford Introduction to jazz) with touring experience in over 60 countries and a discography of almost 30 titles.
Honing played and recorded with greats as Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Paul Bley. In 2001 Honing received the Edison Jazz Award (Dutch Grammy) for his recording 'Seven', featuring Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Paul Motion. In pop music Yuri worked with many national pop stars, among them the international acclaimed Sarah Bettens and Gabriel Rios. Honing was rewarded the Boy Edgar prize in 2012, Hollands most prestigious jazz award.
Yuri has a lot of international experience in teaching and coaching, giving worldwide workshops on music and how to develop as an artist. He lectured over the music industry, and how to enhance your chances to survive as a musician. In his two working bands, the Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet and Wired Paradise, Yuri regularly invites young talent to join for a tour.
As a mentor Yuri likes to guide committed young musicians who can use advice in how to find and develop their authenticity, become stronger voices in music, upgrade their sound and phrasing, their composing skills, their stage presence, deal with audiences and how to gain the interest of record companies, booking agencies and press.
